Get Seussical and Sink Your Teeth into Read Across America Day 2014!

Read Across America 2014 posterThe Virgin Islands Next Generation Network, Inc. (viNGN) encourages the community to sink its teeth into good books, whether paper or digital, for this Read Across America Day, Monday, March 3, 2014. The National Education Association (NEA) spearheads the Read Across America effort in honor of the late Dr. Theodore Geisel better known as “Dr. Seuss”, whose actual birth date is March 2nd. Throughout the United States, a host of schools, libraries, and community centers combine children, books and adults in a massive read-in.

It’s also a great time to spend some time reading books, magazines and periodicals to the sick and shut-in, in hospitals and hospices, prisons and day care centers.

Since books have crossed the line into the digital realm along with lots of the information available online, viNGN would like to remind the community that ebooks are hot, portable and available in the USVI and elsewhere. Also, the United States Virgin Islands Public Libraries makes available its catalog of available books from any internet-connected computer or device! So, whether you are turning pages, swiping or clicking, it’s always a great time to pick up a book… and Read Across America with us! kids, teens, and books, and you can too! Incorporate these guides and activities to celebrate reading with young people.

Use these resources to jump-start your Read Across America Day!
