VI Source: Public Asked to Take Part in Historic Laying of Undersea Broadband Cable

(VI Source) – The community is invited to be a part of the Technological Revolution… and communications history! The laying of the territory’s first 100% fiber optic subsea cable begins, and the IT Intrepid is here. Last week, the ship departed from South America – over 300 feet long, the ship is carrying a highly specialized crew and equipment to create a truly interconnected U.S. Virgin Islands!

We’re inviting everyone to “Clip the Ship” –  to participate from the shore, capture a picture or video footage of the ship in route and share it on social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) by hash tagging #viNextGen.

Once the project is completed, there will be a celebration – an informative press event and commemoration of our upgrade to the “Next Generation of Technology.”
