The new Excise Tax Web Portal of the USVI Bureau of Internal Revenue (USVI BIR) will be demonstrated from 9am – 12 noon on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at the Charles W. Turnbull Regional Library on St. Thomas and on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at the Department of Labor Sion Farm office on St. Croix. These two locations are also viNGN Public Computer Centers, and provide Wi-Fi internet access, so it is possible for taxpayers attending to bring their own laptops to engage in the training.

Excise taxes are levied on goods that are imported into the U.S. Virgin Islands. The intent of the online portal is to permit brokers and other taxpayers to provide excise tax information in advance of visits to the office, thereby saving time. Plans are in the works to enable visitors to the new portal to pay online as well.

Space is limited; interested persons may visit  BIR’s web site at www.vibir.gov and click on the “Register Here” link for either St. Thomas or St. Croix to sign up. Questions concerning the excise tax online system should be directed to Supervisor Glenford Hodge at the Excise Tax Office, at 715-1040, ext. 3201.
