Many of those who attended the 45th Annual Agriculture and Food Fair (AgriFest) on St. Croix this weekend were interested in Virgin Islands Next Generation Network’s (viNGN) technology for their work and homes, and they got a chance to experience first-hand one of the fastest networks in the United States.

Next Generation Network provided free Wi-Fi access from one of several fiber access points (FAPs) to vendors and the public, and conducted on-demand speed tests to illustrate that the territory can get Internet speeds in excess of 300Mbps. (read more)

The Virgin Islands Next Generation Network (viNGN) was established in 2010 as a public corporation; it is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Virgin Islands Public Finance Authority. viNGN was funded primarily from a grant by the National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) as part of a federal program to improve the broadband capacity in the United States, its territories, and the District of Columbia.The program is called the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP).
