The Virgin Islands Next Generation Network, Inc. (viNGN) was among the sponsors and participants the 3rd annual Information Technology Expo hosted by OmniSystems, Inc. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 7-8, 2017 at Marriott Frenchman’s Reef Beach Resort. This year’s events focused on Cloud Computing as the foundation for SaaS (Software as a Service), document management, cyber-security, VoiP (Voice over IP), disaster recovery and continuity, secured internal communications and many other mission-critical functions.
Today’s enterprise, government and small business systems rely heavily on Cloud Computing and viNGN has been instrumental providing 100% fiber-optic connections to government agencies, Community Anchor Institutions (CAIs) and businesses through partnerships with several local Internet Service Providers (ISPs). As the manager of the territory’s middle-mile network, viNGN also provides broadband Internet, colocation, technical services and metro-Ethernet to the local telecom industry.

The Virgin Islands Next Generation Network (viNGN) was established in 2010 as a public corporation; it is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Virgin Islands Public Finance Authority. viNGN was funded primarily from a grant by the National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) as part of a federal program to improve the broadband capacity in the United States, its territories, and the District of Columbia.The program is called the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP).
