An Important Message from Virgin Islands Next Generation Network President and CEO Dr. Mark McGibbon
Dear Fellow Virgin Islanders:
As the United States Virgin Islands and our neighboring sister islands prepare for the impact of the incoming Hurricane Irma, the Virgin Islands Next Generation Network (viNGN) remains an active participant in all Emergency Operation Center preparedness meetings with the Virgin Islands Territorial Management Agency (VITEMA), alongside Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp and VITEMA Director Mona Barnes.
While viNGN is dependent upon the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) as its primary source of energy for day-to-day operations, we want our customers to know that the viNGN network infrastructure is also supported with power redundancy. To help guarantee continuous broadband Internet bandwidth to our Internet Service Provider (ISP) partners, viNGN utilizes both standby generators and short-term battery backups.
We urge the public to be prepared and follow all official instructions to ensure the utmost safety for our Virgin Islands community now, during the Hurricane Irma event, and through to any needed recovery period.
Following the official “ALL CLEAR” from Government House, viNGN personnel will immediately commence any necessary network restoration service coordination with our local ISPs, as quickly as possible.
Local Internet customers may also contact their ISP directly for updates in case of any internet outages (in alphabetical order):
