The Virgin Islands Next Generation Network, Inc. (viNGN) was invited to speak with parents and students of the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School’s Heliopolis 21st Century Enrichment After School Program on appropriate internet use by teenagers on Tuesday, April 16, 2019.
Incorporating elements of The Library Juice Academy course “Everything to Hide: A Toolkit for Protecting Patrons’ Digital Privacy”, audience members were introduced to “threat models” – the personality types and behaviors that make children most vulnerable to cyber stalking, cyber bullying and privacy intrusion.
The session also included the NetSmartz short film “6 Degrees of Information”. NetSmartz is an educational program of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) that features guidance for staying safe online or offline. The material is tailored for age groups, and parents, guardians, educators, law enforcement and other responsible adults can use them to help engage, empower and educate children.
viNGN regularly provides exposure for youngsters and adults to information technology and communications through similar programs and appearances throughout the territory.
