Virgin Islands Department of Education Shares 2020-2021 Virtual Orientation Schedule


Note: In keeping with Governor Albert Bryan Jr’s August 29 extension of the territory’s Stay-at-Home Order, the Virgin Islands Department of Education has delayed the start of public schools for one week, with classes beginning on Mon., Sept. 14, and not Tues., Sept. 8. All students will learn from home, as previously announced. [details at vide.vi]

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Virgin Islands Department of Education has created virtual orientation schedules for public schools in the St. Croix and St. Thomas/St. John districts. Virtual orientation sessions will be hosted via Zoom and Microsoft Teams from August 31 – September 4, 2020; with access information emailed direct to parents and students. Parents of Special Education students must attend an interactive Facebook Live streamed at 6:30 pm on September 3, 2020.

Gov. Bryan Grants Administrative Leave to Allow Enjoyment of Virtual Carnival


In observance of the hard work and dedication of the front-line workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Albert Bryan Jr. has issued an executive order approving administrative leave for non-essential government employees to commemorate Carnival on St. Thomas, which was cancelled this year because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Under the Governor’s order, all government offices will be closed Friday.

The cultural boost will be provided through the partnership of the Division of Festivals of the USVI Department of Tourism and WTJX – Channel 12, the Virgin Islands Public Broadcasting System. The “Virtual Carnival” theme is “All Eyes Still On We for 2020”.
