Hour of Code students at Central SDA PCC on St. Croix
Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp has honored Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 5-11, 2016) with an official territorial proclamation. This year 159,233 Hour of Code events are to be held worldwide; several public, private and parochial schools have registered Hour of Code activities in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
On Thursday, December, 8, 2016, nearly 20 students from elementary to high school ages worked gleefully to complete their exercises during the Virgin Islands Next Generation Network’s (viNGN’s) 4th annual Hour of Code event hosted by the Central Seventh-Day Adventist Church Public Computer Center (PCC) on St. Croix. ST. THOMAS, U.S.V.I. Governor Kenneth E. Mapp has proclaimed the week of December 5, 2016, through December 11, 2016, to be Computer Science Education Week in the United States Virgin Islands.
The period is observed each year to honor Grace Murray Hopper, one of the first females in the field of computer science, who engineered programming languages and pioneered standards for systems which paved the way for many advancements in the discipline. Continue reading
