viNGN presents on protecting Digital Footprint as part of “For Girls Only” conference

viNGN Community Team members presented the workshop “You! 2 tha World! – Who’s protecting your digital footprint?” as part of the “For Girls Only” conference series held at Addelita Cancryn Junior High School and Ivanna Eudora Kean High School on April 5th and 6th, respectively.

The For Girls Only conference was hosted by the Department of Education as the territory’s male students attend the yearly “Man-Up” conference at the University of the Virgin Islands. On St. Thomas April 5, 2016, the female students from the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School and the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School gathered at the ACJHS campus to enjoy a series of workshops, while female students from the Charlotte Amalie High School gathered at IEKHS to do the same on April 6, 2016. Community members shared the value of education, long-term planning, grooming and appearance, self-respect, sound decision-making skills and abstinence for girls and young ladies. The Plenary Speaker, Attorney Su-Layne Walker, spoke on the topic, “We Know Who We Are: Designers’ Original” and shared her own personal story of setbacks and perseverance.

“It was exciting to see the level of participation of our young ladies as they were taught the importance of protecting their Digital Footprint, which can influence job and higher education prospects, as well as affect our reputations as we move forward in life,” said viNGN PCC Manager Pamela Finley. The workshop began with viewing the NetSmartz video “6 Degrees of Information” which demonstrates how simple it can be to find the trails we leave behind as we interact over the World Wide Web.
